Human Torso Sculpting

In this special 5-week (no 6) ceramic sculpture course focused on the anatomy, structure, and expression of the human face.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create proportional, dynamic body forms in clay. We will explore foundational anatomy, posture, and movement to help you build a piece that feels both realistic and expressive. Toward the end, you’ll have the opportunity to refine your sculpture while observing a live model, adding detail and depth to your work.This workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced ceramic artists. By the conclusion, you will have completed a torso sculpture while strengthening your handbuilding techniques and sharpening your observational skills. All necessary materials, including high-quality clay, sculpting tools, and access to kiln firing, are provided as part of the workshop so you can focus fully on the creative process.

The course encourages patience, experimentation, and trust in the creative process while helping students gain confidence using sculpting tools and developing a deeper understanding of human expression and form.

By the end of the six weeks, students will complete a finished ceramic sculpture and leave with a strong foundation in figurative sculpting techniques and anatomy.
